Well, here we are! The inaugural post of the Neurodivergent Crafter!
This is, frankly, an exciting moment for me, as I have been wanting to start a blog for quite sometime. And now? I have!
Introductions – Who IS the Neurodivergent Crafter?
That is an EXCELLENT question, dear reader!
The Neurodivergent Crafter is me – Shauna Forrister – a self-diagnosed autistic with ADHD and way too many hobbies to keep track of. If it involves a needle and thread, a paintbrush and paint, or any combination of the two, I am elbow deep in it.
In the daytime, I am in Health and Safety as well as Marketing. I was attracted to Health and Safety as it allows me to help people stay safe and avoid needless injuries and illnesses, while Marketing allows me to stretch my creative muscles while earning a paycheck.
In my off hours, I run a small crafting business with my mom and dad – the Whatever Works Craft Studios. There we sell cross stitch patterns, kits, and finished products, embroidery products, hand-sewn accessories, and woodwork items. When not doing that, I also paint, knit, quilt, read, and game – video games, board games, card games, and tabletop role-playing games.
Expectations – What can I expect from this blog?
I have been working very hard, dear reader, to decide what EXACTLY my blog will be about. Essentially, I will discuss how I use crafting to help me deal with the stresses of being a neurodivergent adult in a neurotypical world.
For you, expect there to be lots of tips and tricks regarding various crafts, and advice on living with ADHD and autism. There will also be a lot of suggested items, reviews of my favourite things, and discussions on my work in progress(es?).
As well, expect freebies for subscribers (who doesn’t like freebies?). The Email List will be available soon, along with our first freebie – a cross stitch pattern for fans of Star Wars.
There will be affiliate links to items I recommend. I will never recommend anything I haven’t tried before! I do, however, hope to have this blog bring in a little income, and this is one way I intend to do so.
As can be expected, this blog will likely morph as I grow as a blogger. I have done some blogging before, but it has been several years. So this will be an adventure for both you and I!
Blog posts will be added every Friday. Work-in-Progress Wednesdays will be every second Wednesday.
Goals – Where is the Neurodivergent Crafter headed?
My goals for this blog are fairly simple.
- Help neurodivergent folks like myself find ways to survive a neurotypical world.
- Share my love of crafts and arts, the geekier the better!
- Earn some income.
- Create a community of like-minded people.
These goals may change as the blog changes. Change can be good, and I’m willing to change as I learn what exactly the Neurodivergent Crafter is REALLY about!
Oh My! – Now what?
Thank you for sticking around this long!
If you like this post, please share it with friends and family. Everyone who wants to learn about neurodiversity, improve their crafting skills, or even just hang out is welcome.
